What We Do

At Tinkering School Chicago we build, play and explore.

We build big crazy creations, that are fantastically kid built, and ever changing, and ready for the next set of hands, the next big idea. Using real tools and materials we find joy in the challenges, knowledge in the failures, and the courage and ability to persevere.

We play with ideas and materials. We play to work through tough problems. We play to maximize the fun. Inventing new games and new ways to enjoy ourselves is at the heart of our work. We play to set ourselves free and because we know that play is learning at its finest.

We explore ideas. We explore in nature. We explore to find more fulfilling paths. We find that when we take a nice long walk in the woods we discover so many wonderful things and extend our ability to solve problems. We discover new perspectives that allow us to take on the next challenege.

Summer Camp

After 10 years of running a week long overnight camp in central Illinois, Tinkering School Chicago is on a brief hiatus. We will be back next summer with a few weeks of building big at Day Camp in the Western Suburbs! Stay tuned for details!

Workshops

We offer a variety of weekend workshops throughout the year. The workshops range from fort-building to playing with toy motors, to building huge chain reaction machines. We partner with organizations to bring the wonders of Tinkering School to communities around the Chicago-land area.
